In meinem letzten Post über Japan möchte ich euch nach Yokohama entführen.
In my last post about Japan I want to take you to Yokohama.
Erstmal ein Mini-Steckbrief über die Stadt:
Yokohama ist mit ca. 3,7 Mio Einwohner die zweitgrößte Stadt Japans und liegt etwas südlich von Tokyo. Zum Vergleich: Tokyo hat ca. 9,5 mio Einwohner. Was vielleicht noch interessant ist: Eine deutsche Partnerstadt von Yokohama ist Frankfurt a. M., in USA wäre es San Diego.
First a mini profile of this city:
Yokohama is with about 3,7 million inhabitants the second biggest city in Japan and is located a little bit south of Tokyo. As comparison: Tokyo has about 9,5 million inhabitants. What else may be interesting: A German twin city of Yokohama is Frankfurt a. M., in USA it's San Diego.
Im Jahre 1853 landete der US-Commodore Matthew Perry mit seiner Flotte hier in der Bucht von Edo und erzwang dadurch die Öffnung des bisher vollständig isolierten Japans.
In Yokohama siedelten sich infolge viele Ausländer an und der Ort wurde zum zentralen Umschlagsplatz des internationalen Handels. Auch heute noch hat Yokohama einen bedeutenden Handelshafen.
In the year 1853 US Commodore Matthew Perry landed with his float in the Bay of Edo and forced the opening of the - up to that point - totally isolated Japan. As a result of it many foreigner settled down here and this place became a central place of transshipment for the international trade. Even today Yokohama has still a significant trade port.
Für unseren Tagesausflug nach Yokohama haben wir uns diesmal eine Reiseführung gebucht. Praktischerweise werden wir alle gleich im Hotel in Tokyo abgeholt und bis in die Stadt gebracht.
For our day trip to Yokohama we booked this time a tour guide. How practically that she picked us up in our hotel in Tokyo and brought us to the city.
Vom Marine Tower schauen wir uns die Stadt erstmal von oben an.
From Marine Tower we first enjoy the view over the city.
Wir hatten zwar schönes, angenehmes Wetter, aber an diesem Morgen war der Himmel nebelverhangen. Hier blicken wir auf den Yamashita-Park, durch den wir gleich noch etwas laufen werden.
We had beautiful, nice weather, but on that morning the sky was very foggy. Here we look at Yamashita Park through which we will pass soon.
Noch ein Blick auf die andere Seite Richtung Hafen. Ganz hinten links sieht man die Yokohama Bay Bridge.

Vor dem New Grand Hotel liegt der Rosengarten des Yamashita-Parks. Leider haben die meisten Rosen gerade nicht geblüht.
In front of the New Grand Hotel is the rose garden of Yamashita Park. Unfortunately most of them haven't bloomed right now.
Im Hintergrund erkennt man jetzt das Hochhaus- und Vergnügungsviertel Minato Mirai.
In the background you can see the skyscraper and entertainment quarter Minato Mirai.
In Yokohama gibt es das größte Chinatown von ganz Japan. Das wollte ich mir unbedingt ansehen! Bisher war ich noch niemals in einem Chinatown. Allerdings ist es inzwischen Zeit zum Mittagessen geworden. Bevor wir weiterlaufen werden wir hier die chinesische Küche testen.
In Yokohama you can find the biggest Chinatown of whole Japan. I absolutely had to see that! So far I have never seen a Chinatown. However it got time for lunch. Before we continue we want to try chinese cuisine here.
Das Mittagessen im China-Restaurant hat uns wohl etwas zu lange aufgehalten. Schließlich mussten wir uns alle miteinander bekannt machen. Dann hat es Keity, unsere Reiseleitung, anscheinend etwas eilig.
I think we stayed a little bit too long for lunch in the Chinese restaurant. After all we all had to get to know each other. Then Keity, our tour guide, suddendly seems to be in a hurry.
Stellt man sich nicht so einen chinesischen Straßenhändler vor? Leider habe ich nicht wirklich herausbekommen, was er verkauft.
Don't you imagine a Chinese street vendor like that? Unfortunately I couldn't find out what he sells.
Die Außenwerbung eines China-Restaurants! Und nein! Dort haben wir nicht zu Mittag gegessen!

In Chinatown gibt es auch einen chinesischen Tempel, der aber gerade wegen Renovierung nicht zu besichtigen war. Wir laufen stattdessen an einem kleinen, chinesischen Schrein vorbei.
In Chinatown there is also a Chinese temple which was due to renovation not to visit. Instead we pass a little Chinese shrine.
Ein Werbeplakat für ein Geschäft. Kundschaft war auch gerade dort. Hat jemand die Geschäftsidee erraten? Zu dumm, dass es Keity jetzt wirklich eilig hat, sonst...?

Gerade rechtzeitig ganz kurz vorm Ablegen schaffen wir es noch auf die Fähre namens Sea Bus.
Just in time before casting off we make the ferry called Sea Bus.
Jetzt ist endlich mal genügend Zeit, um unsere Reiseführer vorzustellen: Es ist Keity, meine japanische Bloggerfreundin, und ihr ältester Sohn. Ihr Blog heißt übrigens "
La Vie en Rose". Als sie erfahren hat, dass ich nach Japan komme, hat sie sich sofort angeboten mich zu treffen und uns irgendwo eine Tour zu geben. Ich habe mich dann für Yokohama entschieden und es nicht bereut. Yokohama war für mich im Vergleich zu Tokyo eine herrlich erholsame Stadt und sehr sehenswert!
Now it's finally enough time to introduce our tour guide: Her name is Keity and she is my Japanese blog friend. And she was also accompanied by her oldest son. The name of her blog is: "La Vie en Rose". When she found out that I would travel to Japan, she immediatetly offered to meet me and to give me a tour. I decided for Yokohama and I haven't regret it at all. Yokohama was for me compared to Tokyo a pretty relaxing town and very worth to see!

Wie auf dieser Postkarte könnte die Skyline von Yokohama an Tagen ohne Nebel aussehen. Dieses Foto wurde definitiv nicht im Sommer aufgenommen. Denn Mount Fuji im Hintergrund hatte während meines Besuchs keine Schneekuppe.
On days without fog the skyline of Yokohama could look like like on that postcard. This picture was definitley not taken in summer. Because Mount Fuji in the background hadn't have a snow-capped peak during my visit.
Die Red Brick Warehouses waren früher, wie der Name schon sagt, Lagerhäuser. Heute
befinden sich jede Menge nette Läden und Restaurants darin. Auf dem
Platz davor wird auch jedes Jahr ein Oktoberfest abgehalten und, wie ich
inzwischen auch herausgefunden habe, gibt es während der Adventszeit auch einen Weihnachtsmarkt mit deutschen Produkten.
The Red Brick Warehouses were in former times, as the name says, warehouses. Today you can find here many nice stores and restaurants. On the place in front of it every year takes place an Octoberfest and, how I found out in the meantime, during christmas time there is also a christmas market with German products.
Wir laufen weiter... , am Vergnügungsviertel mit dem rosafarbenen Riesenrad vorbei...
We keep going..., pass the entertainment area with the pink coloured Ferris wheel...
...Richtung Queens Square, Landmark Plaza und Queens Tower - dem Shopping Mall Paradies.
Wo steht die größte Shopping Mall Deutschlands? Ich habe keine Ahnung!
Und in USA? Vielleicht Minneapolis?
Wer shoppingbegeistert ist kann jedenfalls hier viel Zeit verbringen.

Where is the biggest shopping mall in Germany? I have no idea!
What's about USA? Maybe Minneapolis?
Whoever is keen on shopping can spent a lot of time here.
Wir gehen natürlich auch hinein und verbringen schließlich den restlichen Tag einschließlich Abendessen dort.
Of course we have to go inside and will spend the rest of day here including dinner.
Beim Durchlaufen der Läden entdecke ich alte Bekannte aus meiner Vergangenheit. Kennt sie noch jemand? Ich musste erst in meinem alten Kinderbuch nachsehen, weil ich bereits den Namen vergessen hatte. Dies ist die kleine My von den Mumins.
When walking through the stores I find old acquaintances from my past. Does anybody know her? I first had to look her up in my old children book because I already have forgotten her name. It's the little My from the Mumins.
Und diese Typen kennt bestimmt auch jeder! Happy nachträgliches Halloween!

Es trifft sich gut, dass wir, Keity und ich, Söhne im ähnlichen Alter haben. Das liefert uns gleich jede Menge Gesprächsstoff, wie ihr euch bestimmt vorstellen könnt. Zum Erfahrungsaustausch setzen wir uns jetzt am besten in ein Cafe, das übrigens sehr deutsch aussieht, und warten dort auch auf unsere Jungs.
It happens really good, that we, Keity and me, have sons in similar ages. Therefore it gives us a lot of topics of conversation, as you can imagine! To exchange experiences we enter a cafe, which looks a lot of German to me, and also wait there for our boys.
Diese haben sich bereits am Eingang der Mall von uns abgeseilt. Ich fand es toll, dass sie sich von Anfang an gut verstanden haben und trotz unterschiedlicher Sprache und Kultur und ein bisschen Altersunterschied, gemeinsame Interessen herausgefunden haben.
They already skedaddle from us at the entrance of the mall. I found it great that from the beginning they could get along with each other and despite of different language and culture and a small age difference they could find common interests.
Womit sie sich die Zeit hier vertrieben haben, wollt ihr wissen? .... Typisch Japanisch: Mit Karaoke singen! (Übrigens ein Wunsch meines Sohnes.)
How they killed time here, you want to know? ....They did something typical Japanese: They sang Karaoke! (By the way my son's wish.)

Damit möchte ich meinen Reisebericht über Japan beenden. Natürlich habe ich noch viel mehr Fotos, auch an anderen, unbekannteren Orten gemacht. Ich hoffe es hat euch Allen ein bisschen Spaß gemacht mich bzw. uns in diesem fernen Land zu begleiten.
